In the morning while walking down the hallway, the morning class even won a class BEAK award for being so respectful and quiet! We are excited to start saving up another 5 class BEAK awards to have another special day at school. Way to go, 4K students!
Afterwards, we spent some time talking about what we are thankful for. We listened to a story called Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks. The story helped us to start thinking about other ideas for what we could be thankful for.
Then we went to the tables and journaled about something we are thankful for. The children worked hard to draw detailed pictures and some children even helped with writing some letters on the journal pages. There were a variety of different ideas!
We also spent some time playing. Turkey bowling was popular again. We also finished up the turkey Tt's for our alphabet books.
After playtime, we got to make a special snack - pumpkin pie! It was absolutely delicious! Each child helped with a special task, such as pouring in items, stirring, or measuring. We also used our senses while mixing. It was exciting to watch the color changes when new items were added and mixed in. We also got to smell different spices, such as cinnamon and ginger.
Next, each child got to crush his/her own graham cracker to make the crust. We poured the graham cracker crust in the bottom. Then we scooped in some filling. Finally, we added some Cool Whip.
Then it was time for the best part - eating! Yum! Several children said it was the best pumpkin pie they had ever tasted! Check your child's folder for your own copy of the simple recipe! :)
Afterwards, we read the story 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving. We also reviewed some turkey facts that we had learned yesterday, such as a boy turkey is called a tom and a group of turkeys is called a flock.
In the morning, we had time to work on vocabulary and visual discrimination skills while playing a "What's Missing? Turkey" game. We also reviewed colors while singing a turkey feather song to the tune of "Mary Wore a Red Dress."
To end the day, we enjoyed playing outside!
I am thankful for each of you for sharing your children with me each day when they come to school and also for all of your wonderful support! It is truly appreciated! Have a fantastic Thanksgiving! :)
