Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Happy Tuesday!

Today we continued to focus on letters, especially the letters in our names. We have also been working on learning the sounds that the letters make. Knowing the sounds will help us when we are learning to read and write.

During sign-in, we are using our letter-sound knowledge to stretch out words to help write about the pictures we draw. We are also practicing adding details to our drawings. Details will help us to be better writers. Also at sign-in, we are continuing to work on writing our first and last names and identifying the letters in our names. We have been working hard!

Our story today was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We got excited when we found letters that we knew in the story.  We loved this story so much that we had to read it twice! :)

On the SMART Board, we sorted numbers and letters. We were excited when we realized that number starts with our new letter Nn!

Then we visited centers. Your child will visit one center each day this week. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.

At the first center, the children used nighttime watercolor paints to paint a magic nighttime name in stars. It was exciting to see our names magically appear! Afterwards, we went on a hunt around the classroom for the letters in our names. When we found a letter, we had to color it the corresponding color on our recording sheet. It was tricky to find all the letters in our names!

At the second center, we made a name Nn page for our alphabet books. We had to search through many names to find our own name. We also sorted letters by whether or not they belong in our name.

At the third center, we played the name game. We had to take turns drawing a letter out of a container, identifying the letter, and then telling whether or not it belongs in our name. Once we found all the letters in our name, we won! While playing, we discussed the different shapes of the letters and talked about how they are alike and different. We looked at how many curves and straight lines each letter had.

Then it was time to play! We opened up the construction zone in the dramatic play center. The number necklaces were also popular. We also continued to work on making name necklaces.

After snack, we made a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree and added letter stickers to it to spell out our names. They will look great displayed outside our classroom!

Have a great evening! :)
