Names!

Happy Wednesday, 4K Families!

Today was filled with lots of fun and excitement! During our opening circle, we read the story Catalina Magdalena. This book is about a girl who has a very, very long name. In the story she gets married and her name gets even longer! After we read our story, we figured out how many letters are in our own names and we graphed them on our SMART Board. We talked about which friends have long or short names.

Today was our second day of centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.

At the first center, the children made a magical nighttime name project. They water colored a piece of white paper using nighttime colors and magically their letters appeared in stars. They were very excited to see their name appear! After they finished their nighttime name picture, the children search around the room for the letters in their name. They recorded which letters they found by using the corresponding color as the letter they found.

The children at the second center made their letter Nn alphabet page. They had to search for little pieces of paper with their name on it and glue them on the big N and little n. After they finished their alphabet page, they did a letter sort. The children sorted letters by whether or not they belong in their name.

At the last center, the children took turns reaching into a bucket to find a letter. They needed to identify whether or not it belongs in their name. If it belonged, the child placed it on his/her name card. If not, they put it back in the bucket. They continued to play until a child has found all of the letters in his/her name. While we played, we talked about the different characteristics that letters have. Some letters have bumps, some have long lines and some have short lines. Some letters are alike and some are different.

Playtime Fun!

At our closing circle we had a special visitor from Altrusa come to read our class a story. She read us There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow. She even brought each of our friends a book to bring home to keep! The children were very excited to hear that they got to keep their book!

Reminder: The turkey disguise project is due tomorrow. Please make sure that your child brings it to school tomorrow so that he/she can share it with the class!

Have a great evening!
