Today was another great day in 4K! We continued to learn about our 5 senses today. We started out our opening circle by reading Forest Friends' Five Senses. This was a book about some forest friends that all end up struggling with one sense. In the book, the rabbit had a hard time hearing because he had wax in his ears. He went to the owl doctor and got his ears cleaned out. The skunk had a hard time smelling because he had a stuffy nose. He got some medicine from the owl doctor and was feeling better in no time. The children enjoyed hearing about all of the different animals who were having problems with their senses. We also sang a song about the different senses.
Today we started centers. Your child will rotate to a different center each day this week. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
At the first center the children made a scented booklet called "My Nose Can Smell." There was a different fruit on each page in the book. The children painted the fruits using special scented paints that correlated with the picture of the fruit. They loved smelling the different scents of the paint to determine with picture they needed to paint next. Once the paint dries, they will be able to scratch the paint to smell the fruit.
The children made a five senses headband at the second center. The headband will be a visual reminder of each of the five senses: hands for touch, eyes for sight, tongue for taste, nose for smell, and ears for hearing.
At the last center the children played a Listening Lotto game. They had to listen carefully for the sounds that they heard. They then had to check to see if the picture that corresponds to the sound was on their lotto board. Once everyone had a chance to win, they made paper plate shakers. Each child sewed together two paper plates. This was a great fine motor activity for us and it was hard work! After sewing, the children got to choose an item to add (lima beans, noodles, rice, pebbles, etc.) to their shaker. They had an opportunity to decorate their shaker. The children listened to the different sounds that each item made.
Playtime was lots of fun again today. The water beads were a big hit once again! Some of the children made their turkey Tt alphabet book page today as an art project during playtime. First they had to color a coffee filter and they we sprayed it with water to make colorful feathers for our turkeys.
At our closing circle we created a daily message. The children helped us write a message about something fun we did today.
Have a great evening! :)
