Sugar Shack!

Hello 4K Friends & Family!

We had an exciting start to the week! We had the opportunity to visit the sugar shack today! We took a walk out to the woods and watched a tree being tapped. Mr. Toneys used a drill to put a hole in the tree. The afternoon children got to see the sap coming out of the tree. Some of the children put some of the sap on their fingers and tasted it. They also got to watch the sap boiling. We learned that the sap is heated so that the water can evaporate. Once the water evaporates, it turns into maple syrup. We also learned that 40 jugs of sap turns into just 1 jug of syrup once the water is evaporated. Each child had the opportunity to try some syrup on a cracker or pretzel. Many of them thought it was delicious!

After experiencing the sugar shack, the children took a walk in the woods. They visited the pond and discovered that there was still ice on it. The children heard the birds chirping while we were on our walk. There was still a lot of snow in the forest. The weather was beautiful and it was the perfect day for a walk. We watched for some signs of spring while on our walk. There were not too many signs of spring present in the forest, but we were excited to find deer tracks!

When we got back, the children enjoyed their snack in the cafeteria!

We also learned about the letter Ee today. We read a book about the letter Ee and learned several words that start with our new letter, such as exercise, eggplant, elephant, egg, exit, and enter. The children learned that enter means to go in and exit means to go out. The children walked around the school searching for exit signs. They found 20 exit signs in our school!

The children also heard the story of Humpty Dumpty. The children enjoyed hearing the story and determining some of the similarities and differences from our Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme. We love listening for rhyming words! We also learned a "Humpty Dumpty" song.

The morning children colored their Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme page today as well. We have been practicing coloring like big Kindergarten students! :)

They also did a "What's Missing? Humpty Dumpty" activity. The children had to search for missing parts to Humpty Dumpty.
