Humpty Dumpty Puzzle Day!

Happy Thursday! Today was our Humpty Dumpty Puzzle Day! We started off our day by making Humpty Dumpty Puzzle Day crowns to wear.

During circle time, we read Humpty Dumpty by Daniel Kirk. In the story, Humpty Dumpty goes to King Moe's birthday celebration. Humpty has a hard time being able to see in the crowd so he climbs on top of the wall. Just like in the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall. Fortunately for Humpty Dumpty, King Moe is great at puzzles and is able to put Humpty Dumpty together again (unlike the king's horses and men)! Then King Moe and Humpty Dumpty become the best of friends.

During centers, we practiced our puzzle skills so that if Humpty Dumpty would ever need our help, we would also be great at puzzles and able to put him back together again! Each child got a recording sheet. Each time a child finished a puzzle, he/she got a stamp. The goal was to see how many puzzles each child could put together. We practiced using teamwork and helping one another.

The children had two must-do puzzle centers to also visit during this time. At the first center, the children had to put together a beginning sound egg puzzle. Each child received an egg with various pictures on it. After cutting out an egg with letters, the children had to match the letter to the picture with the corresponding beginning sound.

At the second puzzle center, the children cut out an oval egg. Then they decorated Humpty Dumpty. Finally, each child cut apart the egg. A teacher mixed-up the pieces and the children tried to put Humpty Dumpty back together again!

Then we had playtime. Some children in the morning continued to work on puzzles to collect stamps during this time. Others played in the Egg Restaurant and the sensory table.

In the afternoon session, we celebrated a birthday. Happy Birthday, Isaac! Thanks for the special treat! :)

After snack, we did the counting jar. We counted m&m's in the morning. In the afternoon, we counted noodles.

We also did the egg shaker song in the morning session, which was a lot of fun.

Before going outside, we played a hatching dinosaur game. The children raced to find a shape, number, or letter named by a teacher on a dinosaur egg. There was a lot of laughter during this time. :)
