Little Lumpty

Happy Wednesday!

Today we read the book Little Lumpty. We learned that Little Lumpty is Humpty Dumpty's nephew. In this story Little Lumpty loves the big wall and has always dreamed of sitting on it just like Humpty. The only problem was that once Lumpty got to the top of the wall, he was afraid to get down and was stuck at the top of the wall. After we got to this point in the story, we stopped. As a class, we made predictions about how Lumpty could get down from the wall. The children came up with some very creative ways of how he could get down.

Then the children made a Little Lumpty project. They built their own wall on a piece of paper and put Little Lumpty up on the top. Next, they made a prediction of how Little Lumpty got down from the wall and drew a picture of their prediction. Then they wrote about it by stretching out their words. The children got the opportunity to share these after snack.

Then it was playtime! Some children created their own bunny Easter baskets. There were also some children that played in our Egg Restaurant. Many children enjoyed playing in the sensory table and found some dinosaurs that were hatching from eggs. Some children even pretended to be the Easter bunny and hid eggs around the room! The children also enjoyed dancing during playtime and the afternoon session even got out the instruments and streamers.

After snack, we danced to the egg shaker song from yesterday. This is one of the children's favorite songs now!

In the afternoon class, we read two books that the some of our friends brought in. We read a book about the life cycle of a frog and we also read The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Thank you for sharing your books with us!

The morning session, we did the counting jar. We counted marbles.

After snack, each child shared their Little Lumpty project. They were very excited to share their predictions of how they thought Little Lumpty got down from the wall.

We finished the day by reading the rest of the Little Lumpty story to discover how Lumpty actually got down from the wall. The children couldn't wait to see if their prediction was correct! Ask your child how Little Lumpty got down from the wall.

We have had many students bring books from their home to share with the class. It is so great to see how excited they are to share their books with their classmates. However, please know that we will try our best to fit in all of the books, but our time together isn't always as long as we'd like it to be.  If your child has a book that pertains to the theme of the week, it is easier to fit the story into our day.
