Today we read the story Dinofours: My Seeds Won't Grow. The Dinofours series of books are great for teaching different social skills. In this story, a dinosaur is upset that his plant is the smallest so he secretly switches his plant with another plant that is bigger. Later, in the story a similar event happens to the dinosaur except he is on the receiving end and realizes how sad he felt when someone switched his special snack. He quickly realizes that his choice of switching plants was not the best choice so he confessed what he did to his teacher. At the end of the story, his plant had grown more and was no longer the smallest plant. We spent some time talking about how it is important to be honest and tell the truth, as well as accepting that sometimes we cannot have what we want.
The children also played a letter game. Each child had to find a letter he/she was given and pick it out of the garden.
The children rotated to their last center. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
At the first center, the children made first and last name pattern flowers. The children cut out the parts of a flower. In the center of the flower, each child wrote his/her first name. Then each child counted the letters in his/her last name and glued that many petals around the flower center. They made a pattern with the petals. Finally, each child wrote one letter of his/her last name on each flower petal before adding the stem and leaves.
The second center used watercolor paints to paint rainbow Rr's for the alphabet books. Then they went on a flower letter hunt around the classroom.
At the third center, the children made shape flowers. Each child cut out various shapes and glued them together to make a shape flower. Then he/she recorded how many of each shape he/she used to make his/her flower.

After snack, the children played letter/number flower bingo! Take some time to review the letters and numbers together at home tonight.
