During circle time, we listened to the story of Stone Soup. The children were each given a vegetable and when they heard their vegetable named in the story, they came up and put it in the pot.
We also listened to the song "Stone Soup" and compared the song to the story. The song had a few extra ingredients, such as barley, salt, and pepper.
Today we did a large group project. The children cut out their own kettle and then all the different vegetables from the story. We glued the vegetables on the kettle in the order they appeared in the story. Then we practiced using our kettles to retell the story to a friend and teacher. Ask your child to tell you the story tonight! If you need help, a summary of the story is glued to the back of your child's Stone Soup project!
Throughout the day, the children worked on a special planting project for Mother's Day. The children are excited to give their gifts to their moms! Happy Mother's Day to all the special moms! Enjoy your special day on Sunday! :)
We also played in various areas in the classroom.
During snack, we had a vegetable taste test where children tasted various vegetables. We tried carrots, potatoes, peas, etc. Thank you to everyone who sent in a vegetable! The children enjoyed exploring them in various ways throughout the week, as well as tasting them today. I was impressed with how every child tasted each vegetable! Don't be surprised if your child asks you to plant some vegetable seeds at home! Some children discovered new vegetables that they never tasted before and liked a lot!
In the morning session, we also had a birthday celebration. Thank you for the treats, Devon! I hope you enjoyed your special day!
At closing circle, we sang everyone's silly rhyming verses to the song "Down by the Bay" that the children worked on at centers this week. There was a lot of laughter! :)
We also read the story "Buzz," Said the Bee. It was a silly story about several different farm animals and also helped reinforce the sound that the letter Zz makes.
There will be a substitute teacher in the classroom again next week as we work on finishing the PALS and classroom assessments. I am so proud of the children for how well they did this week! Thank you for your support at home! It makes a BIG difference! :)
