Important Jobs of Farmers

Happy Monday, 4K Families!

This week we will be focusing on learning about the jobs of a farmer. We talked about how a farmer has many jobs . . . planting seeds, growing vegetables and fruits, feeding and taking care of the animals, milking the cows, and so on.

We read the story Old MacDonald Drives a Tractor. This story focused on different types of farm equipment that the farmer uses and what each item is used for. We learned a lot of new vocabulary words, such as spreader, baler, and cultivator.

We also sang the song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." We sang about all different animals to familiarize the children with farm animals. Their favorite part of the song was the end when each child could choose which farm animal to be. Check your child's folder for some activities to go along with the song tonight.

The children will visit one center Monday through Wednesday in a rotation.

At the first center, the children read the story Down by the Bay. Then we taught the children how to listen to the song at our new listening center. Afterwards the children had to find rhyming picture matches and sing the verses with the new rhymes. Then each child created his/her own rhyme for the song and illustrated it to put in a class song book. 

At the second center, the children measured different vegetables with unfix cubes and recorded the results on a recording sheet. The children enjoyed learning about the different kind of vegetables and exploring how large and/or small they are. 

At the third center, each child got a card with different numbers of vegetables on it. The children took turns sliding the zinger to get a number and placed it on the corresponding number of vegetables on the card. The children continued to play until their card was filled with numbers. This center helped the children to take turns and learn how to follow the rules to a simple game. They had a lot fun playing this game with their friends!

During playtime, some of the children enjoyed listening to books at our new listening center. The listening center was purchased with money that was raised at the Haunted Mansion this year. Thank you for attending the Manson and/or helping out at the Mansion. These listening centers are a great addition to our 4K program!

During closing circle, the children learned about the letter Zz. We read a Zz book and we also played a letter Zz mystery bag game. There were different items in the bag that started with the letter Zz and the children were given clues to help them guess what was in the bag. The morning children created their letter Zz alphabet book page by drawing a zebra on their Zz's

Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest tonight. Tomorrow we will begin the PALS assessment. Therefore, there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom.
