Miss McCabe and Miss Mader were out of the classroom today. Therefore, the children will have substitute teachers and there will not be any pictures from today. Below are some of the activities that the students did today.
During opening circle, the children listened to the book, Have You Got My Purr?. They talked about how some kittens are solid colors, some are striped, and some are calico. The children learned that calico means that there are patches of different colors on the kitten.
After circle time, the children made their own torn paper kittens. Instead of using scissors, the children needed to use their hands to tear the paper to make their kittens. This will help to make their hand muscles stronger, which will help with their handwriting and other fine motor skills. First they talked about the different body parts that their kitten will need: a head, body, 4 legs, a tail, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, whiskers, etc. After they had all of their kitten's body parts torn, they glued them together. The children were also be given the option to add details to make a calico or striped kitten, if they so chose.
During playtime, the children had an opportunity to make a calico kitten using watercolor paints. They drew a face with a black crayon and then used watercolor paints to paint over the crayon markings.
During closing circle, the children learned about the letter Kk. This was their last letter to learn! They read some books that focused on the letter Kk and met our feely phonic letter, kicking Kk. The children also made their kicking Kk alphabet book page.
Have a great evening!
