During circle time, Miss McCabe tried to trick everyone. The children identified the farm animal pictured and then had to come up with the special word for the baby animal. For example, if a picture of a sheep was held up, the children had to say lamb. We learned all kinds of vocabulary, such as kid, calf, chick, and duckling. Our story was titled Over On the Farm. The story helped reinforce names for different baby farm animals.
Today we also learned that boy and girl animals have different names too. A boy chicken is called a rooster while a girl chicken is called a hen. We learned all sorts of new vocabulary today! :)
Our project today was to make a book about moms and their babies. The children had to find the corresponding picture of the mom and baby to glue on each page. For example, if it said a sow and her piglets, the children had to find a picture of a mother pig and her babies to glue on the page. Take some time to read the story together at home tonight!
We also had playtime in the classroom.
Today we celebrated some summer birthdays. In the morning, we celebrated Lucy's summer birthday. In the afternoon session, we celebrated Jaicee's summer birthday. We hope you have a great birthday! Thank you for the special treats!
At closing circle, we read Charlie Needs a Cloak to help us learn how a sheep's wool can be used to make yarn for clothing. We also read a silly story titled Baa-Choo!.
In the morning session, we also found a little extra time to do the counting jar. We also learned how to play "The Farmer in the Dell." It was a lot of fun!
Due to the weather, the FFA Farm Animal Day got rescheduled for tomorrow. Please make sure your child is appropriately dressed for the weather tomorrow! I highly recommend boots to keep everyone's socks dry for the morning session as the grass is usually damp in the morning.
