Firebears to the Rescue!

Happy Wednesday, 4K Families! 

We continued learning about fire safety today. We started out our day by reviewing the letter Ff. Ask your child if he/she can tell you a word that starts with the letter Ff. We read the book Firebears: The Rescue Team. This is a story about some firebears that have many firefighting jobs to do. We loved finding all of the rhymes in the story!

We also played a "What's Missing?" game. The children were shown a picture of a firefighter. They were then shown several pictures of the same firefighter, only some parts of the picture were missing. Their job was to pick out which items were missing in each picture. We learned some new vocabulary words while playing this game, such as nozzle and badge.

We also sorted pictures of items that were safe for us to touch and items that were not safe for us to touch. We sorted these pictures by using our SMART Board! The children had a lot fun being able to sort the pictures by themselves in this interactive way!

Instead of having centers, we had a large group activity today. The children had the opportunity to make their own firebear, just like in the story we read during our opening circle. They started out by cutting out and gluing pieces of the bear together. Then they had to draw a picture of a job that their firebear has, such as getting a cat out of a tree, spraying water on a fire, or driving a firetruck. Our 4K friends had a lot of fun putting their firebear together and drawing their firebear doing a firefighter job!

Our friends also made a firefighter hat as well. Each child cut out a firefighter hat and badge. They will wear them tomorrow for when the firefighters come to visit us!

We had lots of fun dressing up like firefighters today in our dramatic play area! Some our friends decided to play teacher today as well! 

We made a special snack today. We made fire ladders using graham crackers, frosting, and pretzel sticks. They were delicious!

In the afternoon session, we began sharing our mystery bags. Each child will have the opportunity to do the mystery bag throughout the month of October. This week we had a few students who were given the job to find objects that begin with the letter Ff. The children gave us clues so that we could figure out what was in the bag. Some of the Ff items in our mystery bag today were: a flashlight, funnel, french fries, Fritos, and firetruck.
