We hope you had a great weekend and are ready for another busy week in 4K! February is National Dental Health month. The children will be learning about dental hygiene all week. On Wednesday, we will be having some special visitors from Midwest Dental.
We have a new poem for the month. It is the "Queen of Hearts." Our new shape of the month is a heart.

Today we read the book Show Me Your Smile: A Visit to the Dentist. Our friends learned about the importance of brushing our teeth. We talked about how cavities are like little holes in teeth. We also learned about what a typical dentist visit is like.
We sorted foods on the SMART Board by whether they are good for us or are "sometimes foods," meaning they are not good for our teeth so we should not eat them a lot. Our 4K friends did a nice job knowing which foods were good and not always good for their teeth. Some children were concerned when they learned that soda is not good for our teeth. They were very worried about their parents and I'm sure they will be reminding you to brush your teeth when they see you drinking soda - your secret is out! :)
We will have centers Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
At the first center, each child made a queen Qq for his/her alphabet book.
At the second center, each child played a teeth counting game. Each child was given an open mouth. He/she rolled a die and placed that many mini marshmallows "teeth" on inside the mouth. They continued to play until each mouth was filled with teeth.
At the third center, each child cut out a yellow tooth and then brushed it to make it white and shiny. After the children finished, they worked on some of their math skills by playing the game of war using teeth cards.
The children had a blast at the sensory table today. They were busy brushing teeth clean! There were also many children who chose to play in our Queen of Hearts Valentine Shop. Many children wrote valentine cards to their friends! During playtime we also starting making a thank you card for the dentist coming in on Wednesday. Each child got to add their tooth (fingerprint) to the mouth.

Today the children were also introduced to teen numbers. We talked about how the number 12 is really a group of 10 plus 2 more. The morning class did the counting jar and learned that 25 is really just 2 groups of 10 and 5 more. It was great exposure to learning about really makes up numbers!
The morning friends met their new friend, Michael. They are excited to have him join their class!
Have a great evening 4K Families!
