Fun in the Gym!

Happy Wednesday, 4K Families!

Today when the morning children arrived at school, some children worked on finishing their pirate books from yesterday.

All of the afternoon children wrote a journal page about their favorite ocean animal as soon as they arrived at school. The morning session will do this journal activity tomorrow.

We started out our day by reading Class Three at Sea! In this story, there was a class that was sailing in the ocean and some pirates came aboard their ship! The pirates were capturing the children and even threatened some children that they will need to walk the plank. Luckily an octopus and his friends came to save the day and set the class free from the pirates! They were then able to follow the pirate map to find some buried treasure!

We also played a pirate number squeeze game. The children had to guess a secret number. We talked about if the secret number was bigger, smaller, or between certain numbers. Some children even got a turn to think of a secret number! 

Then we had centers. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.

The first center was the Crocodile Mile. This is a life-size board game. Each child rolled a die and moved the correct number of spaces along the life-sized path that even had balance beam planks. Their goal was to get to the "X" at the end to find the treasure. If a child landed on a crocodile, he/she was given a task to complete. The children had so much fun finding the treasure at the end!

At the second center, the children played a Pop & Win Alphabet Bingo game. In this game, some children were working on identifying either uppercase letters, lowercase letters, or beginning sounds. Each child popped the popper. They had to identify the letter or sound of the letter. If he/she had that letter or picture of the beginning sound of that letter, they got to cover up the spot with a gold coin. After all of the letters or pictures were covered, the children received a gold chocolate coin!

At the third center, the children played a number race game called "X Marks the Spot." Each child rolled a die, identified the number, and wrote it! The goal was to get one row of numbers to the X! Some children had so much fun that they continued to play to find out which number would come in second place and even third place!

After centers was playtime! A few students created their sea urchins from playdough. Some children requested to play the pirate number squeeze game so they got a chance to play on the SMART Board again!

After snack, we played an activity on the SMART Board. The children had to count the number of gold coins in the treasure chest and circle the correct number below.

Then we went to the gym. We played a game similar to "Duck, Duck Goose." Each child was given a card with a letter on it. They each got the chance to skip around the circle of their friends singing "Their name, over the ocean, their name over the sea, their name caught a letter that they were given, But you can't catch me." Then they tapped a friend's head and that classmate had to try to catch them. The children loved playing this game!

Morning 4K Families: Please remember to send a beach towel with your child tomorrow for our classroom beach party! The children are excited about having won 5 class BEAKs and are eagerly working towards another 5 so they can vote to have another classroom party!

Our afternoon friends are still working on getting 5 class BEAK awards! So far we have 3 class beaks . . . that means only 2 more to go until we can have a special classroom party!
