This week during sign-in, the children were asked to journal about someone or something they love a lot and to tell why. Journaling helps us learn that our pictures need to match the words that are written, as well as helps us to focus on the letter sounds that we hear.
Today's story was The Night Before Valentine's Day. The children noticed that the story had a lot of rhyming words in it. Way to go, 4K students!
We learned a new song to the tune of "Bingo." Instead of spelling "Bingo," we spelled "heart" while singing the song. Check the "Here's the Scoop" newsletter that went home on Monday for the words to the song. The children's favorite part was clapping when a letter was taken away.
We visited our final center for the week today. Ask your child which center he/she visited.
At the first center, the children made a valentine song booklet. They helped glue the correct items on each page. We even learned sign language for "I love you." Ask your child to read the booklet to you at home. The children were very excited to be able to "read" the booklet all by themselves!
The second center played a playdough heart number mystery game. Each child drew a "secret number." They had to make the corresponding number of playdough hearts. Then their friends had to try to use the clue to figure out what the "secret number" was. It was a lot of fun - and worked on developing both our fine motor and math skills!
The third center made a valentine bear card to give to someone special!
We enjoyed playing in the classroom. Some children also enjoyed passing out their valentine cards. A special thanks to everyone who sent in their cards early! It is extremely helpful to get them passed out in advance as our party day will be busy!
After snack, we reviewed our "Queen of Hearts" nursery rhyme and colored the rhyme for our nursery rhyme notebooks. We are working very hard on taking our time and coloring within the lines.
In the morning, we made heart fish to display on an ocean mural that we will be painting next week. The afternoon session will get to do this project tomorrow!
Children are welcome to wear the color red (or other valentine colors) to school tomorrow if they would like!
