Another Fun Day in 4K!

Happy Thursday, 4K Families!

Today was our last day talking about penguins. We started out our day by reading the story Tacky the Penguin. This was a story about a very odd and silly penguin named Tacky. He was different from the the other penguins. He was dressed differently, he marched differently, and he even dived differently. Then some hunters came and Tacky saved the day!

Then the children got the opportunity to see if they were shorter or taller than an emperor penguin. An emperor penguin is the tallest penguin. We learned that all of our 4K students were shorter than an adult emperor penguin, but some are getting pretty close!

We visited our last center today. Ask your child which center he/she visited.

The first center read a penguin counting book and then caught number fish to feed to a penguin.

The second center read a penguin alphabet book and then worked to match uppercase and lowercase letter fish to feed to a penguin.

The third center used animal stamps to stamp on the letter Aa for their alphabet books. This center also reviewed the letter P. They sorted penguins with letters on their bellies by whether or not they were a P.

Then it was playtime! :)

We had a delicious snack of goldfish today. The children each received a penguin mat. Each penguin had a number on it. The children had to count out the correct number of goldfish to place on each of the penguins.

We finished the day by reading some books about penguins. We read the book Polar Opposites. In this book we learned about how a polar bear and penguin experience may different kinds of opposites. We also learned that polar bears and penguins do not live by each other. Polar bears live in the Arctic or North Pole while penguins live in the South Pole or Antarctica.

We also read the book Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice. This book was very much like Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

In the afternoon, we read another penguin book that Audrie shared with us. It was a nonfiction book about penguins.

Have a great weekend everyone!
