Hibernation

Today we spent some time learning about different animals that hibernate. We learned a song about some animals that hibernate. See if your child can name some animals that hibernate in winter, such as bats, snakes, frogs, toads, and turtles.

Our story today was Bear Snores On. The children enjoyed listening to the rhymes in the story and helping with the repetitive phrase.

We visited another center today. Ask your child which center he/she visited.

The first center drew a self-portrait and went on a bear letter hunt. Children at this table also worked individually with Miss McCabe on some classroom assessments.

The second center made a Bear Bb alphabet book page and colored our nursery rhyme, "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear" for our nursery rhyme book.

The third center played a bear board game that worked on counting, one-to-one correspondence, and number recognition, as well as the social skill of taking turns.

Then we spent some time playing. The bear cave and sensory table were still quite popular! Some children also did a bear cave art project during playtime.

After snack, we read Don't Wake Up the Bear! together. The children loved this story and asked to read it again! They thought that Miss McCabe was a pretty scary bear while reading this story.

We also did the counting jar. Can you believe that we counted all the way to 100?! Way to go, 4K students!

Afterwards we went to the gym with Mrs. Reinhardt's class. We played "Nap or Flap?," which is like "Red Light, Green Light" to review the concepts of hibernation and migration. Then we had some free play in the gym. Several children chose to play "Duck, Duck, Goose" during free choice time.

We were excited to get to eat hot lunch at school just like the kindergarten students do before going home on the buses with the "big kids."
