It was great to see everyone back today. I think we're all hoping it will warm up soon! :)
Today we read the story The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly and learned that penguins are a special kind of bird. They have feathers and wings, but cannot fly.
The children rotated to another center today. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
At the first center, the children read the book Penguins 123 and then played a fishing game. Each child caught fish and identified the number on them. They seemed to enjoy their fishing experience!
The children at the second center read the book Penguins ABC and then played a matching game. Each child matched upper and lowercase letters and "fed" the penguin. The children couldn't wait to find a match so they could feed the penguin!
At the third center, the children reviewed the letter P. They sorted penguins with letters on their bellies by whether or not they were the letter P. After their sort, the children created their letter Aa alphabet book page by stamping animals on their Aa.
Playtime Fun! The art easel was popular once again today!
One of our afternoon friends brought in some penguin books to share with us! Today we read Penguins, Penguins, Everywhere! Thanks for thinking of us, Audrie!
Today our afternoon friends celebrated RJ's Birthday. Happy 5th Birthday, RJ! Thank you for the birthday treat!
During closing circle, the children got to go to the gym! We pretended to be penguins by sliding on our bellies using scooters. The children scooted around the gym, catching letter fish. This was a very fun activity for the children that worked their core. Scooting around on their tummies strengthened their core and their arms, which affects their fine motor skills for writing! This activity was exhausting and the children realized that it is not easy being a penguin! They had so much fun that they requested to play again. We will see if we can squeeze in some time tomorrow to go back to the gym! Check out the pictures below to see just how much fun our little penguins had!
Just a reminder that there will be a substitute teacher for Miss McCabe in the morning session tomorrow.
Have a lovely evening! :)
