Run! Run As Fast As You Can!

Happy Tuesday! If you were walking past our classroom today, you probably would have heard this phrase over and over again: "Run! Run as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the gingerbread man!"

Today was an exciting day in 4K! In the morning session, we had some special visitors that came to see what we do in 4K. We sang some of our songs for our holiday program for them. It is hard to believe that we will get to sing for our 4K families next week!

Our special visitors also watched us make our gingerbread dough. We had to do a lot of measuring! Each child was given a special ingredient card that had a special task for each child to help with. Some of the tasks required us to use teamwork and work together. The cards had pictures so we knew what to add. When we weren't sure what the picture was, we looked at the first letter of the word for a clue, such as the v for vinegar. We had a great time using our senses as we mixed - there were some great faces as the children smelled vinegar and molasses! The dough was put in the refrigerator and tomorrow we will roll it out, cut out our gingerbread men, and put them in the oven.

Today's story was The Gingerbread Man. We compared the story to our gingerbread man song and found some similarities and some differences. The children did a great job of helping with reading the story! They helped with the phrase, "Run, run as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the gingerbread man!"

We also acted out a little rhyme about gingerbread men. Miss McCabe put out a large blanket to use as a pan. The 4K students got to be gingerbread men and Miss McCabe got to chase them as they jumped out shouting, "Run! Run as fast as you can! You can't catch me! I'm the gingerbread man!" They were tricky, but Miss McCabe was hungry for some gingerbread men today! All that running and chasing has really tired her out! :)

The rhyme was great for working on counting skills, taking one away, and oral language skills!

We also played in the classroom. The gingerbread bakery has been HUGELY popular!

Our silly elf today also had a new friend! He had a snowman with a sign counting down the days until Christmas! We're glad he has a new friend so he isn't lonely when we leave the classroom!

Winter is a time of year for illness. If your child has a fever or has been vomiting, he/she should not come to school until he/she is free of fever and/or vomiting for 24 hours. This way there is less chance of illness spreading around our classroom, especially right before the holiday program when we want everyone to be healthy! Thanks for your cooperation!
