Reindeer, Reindeer, Reindeer

Happy Tuesday! Today was filled with excitement as tonight is the BIG night that we have been waiting for! Check the blog later for some pictures and possible video clips of our performance if we are able to get some decent ones... or if you happen to get any decent video or pictures, please feel free to e-mail them to me and I will be happy to post them! Most of our day was spent in the auditorium working on fine-tuning our performance tonight. We got to practice singing with the stage lights on and using the special audio equipment. Miss McCabe got to go all the way to the back of the auditorium to make sure everyone was singing loud enough to be able to be heard all the way in the back. We are hoping our evening performance will go well as this will be the first time that both the afternoon and morning classes will sing together! :)

Today we made a special reindeer rhyming booklet. As we read the rhyme on each page, we had to figure out which color to make Rudolph's nose. For example, if we heard the word "fellow," we knew that Rudolph's nose needed to be yellow because those words rhyme! Take some time to go over different concepts of print while reading through the book with your child at home!

Our story was titled Who'll Pull Santa's Sleigh Tonight?. In the story, Santa's reindeer were sick and could not pull his sleigh. Santa tried many different options, but none of them worked. Ask your child to tell you how Santa helped his reindeer get better in time for Christmas!

We ran out of time to play the "number squeeze" game today, but will try to fit it in another day. A copy of the game was attached to the "Here's the Scoop" newsletter that was sent home on Monday. Take some time to play it together at home! It is a great game to work on early math concepts.

Of course, we also spent some time playing in the classroom. The room was filled with holiday cheer as we used our imaginations to wrap gifts for our friends. I think we have some good elves in training for Santa! :)
Several children also chose to write Christmas cards for special family members!

Even Jingle, our classroom elf, got in the spirit of wrapping and wrapped himself up in a giftbag today!

Remember that the snowman family projects are due tomorrow!

We look forward to seeing everyone arrive at school at 5:30 p.m. tonight for our holiday program! Your child is encouraged to dress nicely! Also remind him/her that you will have to leave to go to the auditorium and find good seats while your child stays with his/her teacher in the media center!
