Gingerbread Baby!

Hello 4K Families,

Our theme for this week will be gingerbread. Throughout the week we will be reading different versions of The Gingerbread Man. We will talk about their similarities and differences. Today we read the book The Gingerbread Baby. In this story, the Gingerbread Baby does NOT get eaten by the fox!!! Instead a little boy builds a gingerbread house for him to live in.

This week we will be having mostly large group because most of our activities we all need to do together. Today the children got to make a gingerbread house for the gingerbread baby. They had to sew the house together with yarn. They also got to decorate it with different colored candies. The children enjoyed decorating their house so much that some of them chose to finish theirs during playtime.

During playtime, the children discovered that St. Nick dropped by our classroom last Thursday night to fill our stockings with goodies! They were so excited to discover that Jingle, our classroom elf, had made a stocking of his own! The children also enjoyed playing in the gingerbread bakery. We are looking for donations of items for our bakery, such as mixing bowls and empty spice canisters. Next week we will also add a Santa's Workshop dramatic play area in addition to the gingerbread bakery. To make Santa's workshop successful, we will need a lot of items, such as wrapping paper scraps, bows, gift tags, Christmas cards, and gift bags. If you would be willing to donate any of these items to our dramatic play area, it would be greatly appreciated! The children look forward to the new play areas and they help to develop important social skills, as well as other learning skills (counting, sorting, writing, etc.). Thanks for your help!

We celebrated Daylia's 5th birthday in the afternoon today! Happy Birthday, Daylia!

Today we learned a new letter . . . the letter Cc! The children got to say hi to Caterpillar Cc by making the /c/ sound as they traced over the letter. We also learned that cookie and Christmas also start with the letter Cc!

We've been practicing a lot for the holiday program, which is only about one week away!

REMINDER: Your child should be coming to school with their winter coat, snowpants, winter boots, hat, and  mittens EVERY day. It is VERY cold outside and we want our kiddos to stay warm!

Tomorrow Scholastic Book Orders are due. Please be sure to send them in by tomorrow so that they arrive before our holiday break. Thanks!

Have a lovely evening! :)
