The Start of a Great Week in 4K!

Today we had a great day! Everyone was so excited to come back to school to see their new friends!

We started our day by having calendar and reading the story, Red Light, Green Light. We talked about what red, green, and yellow mean on a traffic light.

Today we started a new routine called centers. There are four centers and every child will go to one center each day. They will rotate to all four centers by the end of the week. The centers for this week are:

Center 1: The children made a traffic light by cutting out red, yellow, and green circles and gluing them onto a piece of black construction paper. The children also got to make a stop sign. They first cut out the octagon and then got to paint the stop sign red. As they painted it red, magically the word Stop appeared on their paper. It was very exciting!

Center 2: At this center, the children read the book Bears on Wheels by Stan and Jan Berenstain. After reading this book, the children completed a wheel counting book. As they read the book, they had to stamp the number of wheels that were on that page using a thread spool and ink pad.

Center 3: The children got to pick out a picture of one of their favorite book characters. They colored it and glued it on an envelope. This will become your child's book check-out envelope. Your child will have the opportunity to start book check-out in the next couple of weeks.

Center 4: At this center, the children got to play all sort of fun literacy games with one of our favorite nursery rhymes, "Mary Had a Little Lamb." They even got to color a page to add to their nursery rhyme notebook, which will come home on book check-out days.  We will add new pages to the notebook as we learn new nursery rhymes!

Playtime Fun!

The morning and afternoon session had special treats! One of our morning friends brought in plums for our friends to try. In the afternoon we celebrated Samantha's birthday and enjoy special cupcake treats! Tomorrow we will make a special traffic light snack!

We got to go to the gym today! We played the game "red light, green light." The children loved being able to get their wiggles out by running when the teacher said green light.  We even got tricky and added yellow light.  The children did a great job of remembering to go slow when the teacher said yellow light!

We are so excited it's a school day tomorrow. We can't wait for another great day in 4K!
