I Think I Can...

Happy Tuesday! In the afternoon session, we welcomed another new friend to our classroom!  Welcome, Alannah! We will be having another new friend join us in the morning session tomorrow!

Today we continued to learn about trains. We reviewed some of the vocabulary that we had learned yesterday. Then we read The Little Engine That Could.  Afterwards, we talked about how important it is to try new things. Even when we don't know if we can do something, it is important to at least try and tell ourselves, "I think I can."

We also spent some time reviewing shapes and colors. Miss McCabe tried to be tricky, but the 4K students were hard to trick! We even learned a new word for the diamond shape - rhombus. See if your child can remember another word for diamond!

To help us transition to centers, Miss McCabe gave each child a train ticket. The children had to identify the shape on their train ticket in order to board the train to get to their center for the day.

Today the children visited the center that they did not go to yesterday - either making a name train or playing a train shape game.

Students in both classes were also able to build number trains with blocks and work on a train alphabet floor puzzle today.

We are continuing to work on developing social skills during playtime.

After using our counting mats to count out our snack, we sang a silly song about some crazy colorful monsters. We used the SMART Board to sing the song. It helped us review our colors. The children laughed a lot during the silly song!

In the morning, we read two different versions of "Down By the Station." We compared and contrasted the two different versions. One version was about different baby animals that rode the train to the zoo. We learned all sorts of names for baby animals, such as cub, chick, and calf. The second version taught us about different forms of transportation and helped us learn some new vocabulary words.

Our last task before going outside to play was reviewing "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" again. This time instead of using the dry erase boards, we used pencil and paper. I am impressed with how well the children are doing with making the different pre-writing strokes after only learning the song yesterday! :)

Tomorrow the children are invited to wear red and white to school. It may also be a good idea to send your child to school with sleeves that will roll up and stay up as we will be doing some water play the next two days along with our learning about boats!
