Shapes All Around Us!

Today was another fabulous day in 4K! We started out our day by reading the book, On the Launch Pad: A Counting Book About Rockets. The children enjoyed finding hidden numbers on each page in the book.

Our 4K friends visited another new center today. Ask your child which center he/she went to today.

The children at the first center colored their "Hey Diddle, Diddle" nursery rhyme page. These nursery rhyme pages are being put into their Nursery Rhyme Notebook. They also played a rhyming game together.

At the second center, the children enjoyed coloring an astronaut's space suit with their favorite color. These pages that they made today will be bundled together into a class book. After they were done with their space suit page, the children played with space goop! We had lots of fun playing drawing letters and creating our names with the goop!

The children at the third center used push pins to poke holes over their name. They can flash a flashlight onto their page so they can see their name constellation on the ceiling at home!

At the last center, the children played a Hey Diddle Diddle math game. Everyone was given a game board with ten moons on it. They rolled a die, and placed the corresponding number of cows on each moon. They had to cover up all of the moons with cows in order to win.

After centers, we enjoyed playing with our friends! Some of our morning friends were playing at the dramatic play center and decided to start making shopping lists. What a great way to incorporate literacy into their play!

The AM session celebrated Lance's birthday. Happy Birthday, Lance!  Thanks for the special treats!

The PM session made a rocket ship with cheese and crackers. They were very delicious!  We used squares and triangles to make our shape rocket. We discovered that when we put two squares together, it makes a rectangle! The AM session will make their rocket ships tomorrow for snack.

Today we sang and did the actions to the song "An Adventure in Space." The children enjoyed pretending to get on their space suits and float through space, dodging meteorites.

We also went on a shape walk. We went on a short walk outside around our school to look for shapes in our environment. This is a fun activity that your child can play at home. We found tons of shapes around us and had lots of fun finding them! We practiced walking outside to prepare us for our field trip to the apple orchard next Thursday.

Tomorrow there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom for Miss McCabe while she finishes pulling students for assessments.

We hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday!
