In honor of our silly sock day and our celebration of Dr. Seuss, we read the story Fox in Socks. Dr. Seuss writes a lot of silly, rhyming stories! This story was a tongue twister. We talked about what a tongue twister is and the children had fun trying to say some of the silly words fast. It was tricky!
We practiced matching rhyming sets of socks. Everyone is getting good at hearing rhymes. Miss McCabe gave everyone a sock with a picture on it. We had to walk around and try to find a friend who had the matching rhyming picture on it.
Then we visited centers. We will rotate to one center each day. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
The first center listened to the story There's a Wocket in My Pocket by Dr. Seuss. Then they played rhyming bingo.
The second center made a Cat in the Hat counting booklet. At this center, we worked on counting, identifying colors, writing numbers, and concepts of print. See if your child can read you the booklet when it comes home!
The third center played a Cat in the Hat roll and color number game. Each child rolled a die, identified the number, and then looked at the color code to see which number to color the hat. After all the hats were colored in, the children talked about which color there was more of, less of, or the same number of. During this activity, each child had a different set of numbers to work with so that they were challenged at their level.
Then we spent some time playing and developing social skills. Digging for dinosaurs was popular. We also did some painting during playtime. The children have also enjoyed playing with the pirate ship and dinosaurs.
In the morning we ate a special Dr. Seuss snack. We ate silly colored jello with fish in it! Thank you for the special treat, Lance! It was delicious! :)
At closing circle, we reviewed the letter Dd. Then we made a dinosaur Dd for our alphabet books.
We also spent some time looking at Dr. Seuss books.
In the morning session, we had a little bit of time to share a few of the rhyming mystery bags that came in today. Tomorrow we will share the rest of the rhyming mystery bags.
Tomorrow is Wacky Wednesday. Your child can dress up in his/her wacky clothing - anything works! The clothing can be backwards, inside out, or even mismatched.
Rhyming mystery bags and conference slips are due back tomorrow.
We will also have our special Altrusa visitor come in to read us a special story tomorrow.
Please remember to sign and return the cover page of your child's progress report. Thank you!
Have a dino-mite evening! :)
