This week we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! We will be reading many of his silly books!
We started out our day by making a "Cat in the Hat" hat since today was red and white day.
At opening circle, we read The Cat in the Hat. The children loved listening for the rhymes in the book. In the afternoon, after reading the story, we listened for pairs of words to see whether or not they rhyme. In the morning, Lance's mom came as a guest reader. Thank you for your visit! We enjoyed it tremendously! :)
Today the children did a large group activity. They created their own "Cat in the Hat." They got to decide what colored hat their cat was going to have. They had to cut out the cat's head, hat, and bow tie. They also had to free cut their cat's face features out (eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers), meaning they did not have pre-drawn lines to cut on. They had to draw their own eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers and then cut them out. After finishing their cat, they had to help read a sentence that said: "The hat on my cat is (color)." They then had to trace the color word with the corresponding color marker. The cats turned out to be very unique. No two cats were alike!
Next was playtime! We had some children at the easel painting the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 or Thing 2. Other children enjoyed playing with our new pirate ship toy. There were a few children in the afternoon that requested to play the Pirate Squeeze number game again.
We celebrated Abby's birthday in the morning. Happy Birthday, Abby! Thank you for the special treats!
During our closing circle, we learned about our new letter . . . Dd!!! We meet dinosaur Dd and read our Dd book. The children got to be paleontologists and dig in the dirt for dinosaur skeletons. Once they found their dinosaur skeleton, they had to place it on a spot on our map. We practiced using brushes like real paleontologists to brush all the dirt off the skeletons! The children cannot wait to play in the sensory table tomorrow! We kept it closed until the end of the day today when we introduced dinosaur d.

Also, please check your child's folder. There are a lot of papers in there today! Please check for your child's report card and conference slip. Winter conferences are not required for all students. It is only for the parents that the teacher feels they need to meet with. However, if a conference is not suggested for your child and you want a conference, please indicate your time preference on the conference note in your child's folder.
