We hope you all had a great spring break! It was nice to see everyone's smiling faces today and hear about everyone's adventures over the break!
This week we are going to continue learning about pond animals. We are going to be focusing on ducks throughout the week. During opening circle, we listened to the story Dilly Duckling. We learned that baby ducklings do not look like their mothers and fathers. When they get bigger, they lose their feathers and grow new grown-up feathers that look more like their mothers and fathers. We also touched some feathers and used describing words to tell how they felt. Some words that we came up with were fuzzy, soft, fluffy, and warm.
We also played a "What's Missing? Ducklings" activity. The children were shown a picture of some ducklings in a pond and they had to figure out what was missing from the picture on each page. We talked about the different vocabulary in the picture, such as duckling, beak, dragonfly, turtle, ripples, etc. They have very good eyes and were able to spot which items were missing!
We also learned our new nursery rhyme "Caught a Fish Alive"
We will have centers again this week. Your child will rotate to a different center each day. Ask your child which center he/she visited today.
At the first center, the children read the two versions of 5 Little Ducks. They enjoyed singing along with the story. Then each child completed a 5 Little Ducks counting booklet. They had to write the number and glue the correct number of ducks onto each page in their booklet. Then each child practiced pointing to each word while reading the booklet. Have your child help you read this booklet at home!
At the second center, the children cut out a yellow duckling. They colored the beak and feet orange and then they got to turn their ducking into an adult duck by painting its feathers white. They were very excited when they found out that they got to paint with a feather instead of a paintbrush! We talked about how a duckling loses its fluffy feathers and grows new grown-up ones.
At the last center, the children played a duck rhyming memory game. Each child found matching pairs of ducks by flipping them over and finding the pairs. We have some very good rhymers in our class!
Then it was playtime! Some children created a duck art project, while other children played in our sensory table filled with blue grass and plastic turtles, lizards, ducks, and snakes. They were excited to play and socialize with their friends once again!
During snack, the morning friends celebrated Paige's birthday. Happy Birthday Paige!
We ended the day by introducing the letter Yy. We meet Yellow Yy and read some books about this special letter.
The children also created their letter Yy alphabet book page by gluing yellow yarn on their Yy.
We had a great day back! :)
