Happy Tuesday! Today there was a substitute teacher in the classroom so there are not any pictures to post. The children learned all about pond turtles today.
At circle time, they listened to The Foolish Tortoise. See if your child can tell you the difference between a tortoise and a turtle! In the story, the tortoise does not think he needs his shell so he takes it off. Then he discovers that he does not have protection from animals that want to hurt him, shelter from the sun or rain, and that it is hard to hide. In the end, he realized that his shell is very important!
The children visited centers. Ask your child which center he/she went to.
For details about the centers, visit yesterday's post! They either played a pond sorting/graphing/counting game, made suncatcher turtles, or played lily pad letter memory.
Then the children played. The sensory table was popular from what I heard. They enjoyed playing in the water with the frogs and lily pads.
After snack, the children made their very own turtle without a shell. Then they decorated a shell to put on top to review why a turtle's shell is important.
It was a beautiful day to play outside so the children also enjoyed the opportunity to finally get outside and play some!
Remember that there will be a substitute teacher in the classroom again tomorrow. I look forward to being back in the classroom on Thursday.
