There Was an Old Lady...

Happy Tuesday! At arrival, the children enjoyed spending some time looking through their portfolios from the entire year before putting them in their backpacks to take home.

Today we read two different versions of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. We compared and contrasted the stories to find similarities and differences. One of the similarities that we noticed was that both versions had the same animals and they appeared in the same order. We noticed that the pictures were different and realized that each story had a different illustrator. When we listened to the song, we noticed that there was an extra animal that was not in the books - the goat.

We made our own "Old Lady" story prop to use to help sequence and sing the story. See if your child can retell the story to you at home. We noticed that the animals go in from smallest to largest (from the little fly to the big horse).

The children spent a lot of time playing in the classroom and enjoying the last few days with the toys. I also had some great helpers as several children wanted to use their playtime to help clean toys in the classroom! I am so lucky to have such great helpers! Are you sure they can't stay in my 4K classroom for another year?!  :)

In the afternoon, there was a surprise birthday party for all the classroom teachers and associates with summer birthdays. We celebrated the summer birthdays of Miss McCabe, Mrs. DeKeyser, and Mrs. Jacobson. Thank you for organizing the special surprise, Miss Mader!

At closing circle, we read the story Old Black Fly. This was a silly alphabet story that we enjoyed listening to!

We also spent some time revisiting some of our favorite songs we learned this year.

In the morning session, we also did the counting jar for the last time this school year.

Tomorrow we will do some planting in the school garden (weather-permitting). Please make sure your child wears clothes and shoes that can get dirty tomorrow!
